Inspiration Is Fleeting But Your Life Will Always Be Your Life

It is most important that we can find inspiration in something and make it ours. Someone else’s inspiration is for them to own.

Last night I sat down on my couch, covered myself with my throw rug and indulged in a bag of chocolate bullets while watching the movie Eat, Pray, Love. I had been itching to watch it ever since my friend told me how much it has inspired him to travel and live every day in the moment. As I watched, the message began to speak to me just as it had my friend. I was having visions of me in Italy marveling at the buildings and glamour’s Italian women, meeting friends like the ones she met in the movie, eating pasta, sipping vino, I could taste the food, smell the air. Then I came back to earth with a ‘thud’, something about being a spectator in someone else’s wonderful journey makes you look at your own life through tainted glasses and not the rose colored kind, these glasses were black and grey.

Next we see the movie taking us to India where Liz attempts find some inner peace through meditation and love. A little more like my life now with the struggles she goes through and the pain she is suffering on her journey to find inner peace. Again I imagine myself meditating to the Guru, meeting the people she met, having the conversations she has had and I feel the inspiration wash over me again. I have to go to India! Once again I find myself slowly drifting back to my own life then with a ‘thud’ I hit the ground.

Liz is now on her last stopover and we are in Bali. We meet a medicine man who becomes a mentor and teacher for her. The scenery is beautiful, Kutuk’s words are wise and once again I am inspired to meet the medicine man, to go on a journey of self discovery. Maybe that will be me, maybe I will find what I am looking for if I Eat, Pray, Love in 3 different countries! Then ‘Thud’ I arrive back into my life.

My friend who was so inspired by this movie has been telling me for the last 3 days that we all need to take risks and live everyday in the moment. He was flying from Melbourne to Sydney the other day. On the plane he met a guy (the flight attendant) who showed a keen interest in getting to know him better, my friend thought he was cute and seemed lovely and in a one hour flight had disclosed almost his whole life story to my friend. As the flight began to land my friend started thinking about Eat, Pray, Love and about taking risks in his own life. He thought what the hell I will give him my card and if he calls he calls. All the passengers started departing the plane and walking toward the exit, Mr Flight Attendant was saying goodbye to all the passengers, my friend had his card ready and waiting in the palm of his sweaty hand as he walked toward Mr flight attendant and just like that something triggered in his brain that brought him ‘THUD’ back into the reality of his own life, his own fears, his own inner demons and he walked strait past Mr Flight Attendant without even saying goodbye. Mr Flight Attended got back on his airplane and my friend walked back into his life.

The message is this:
Inspiration is fleeting but your life will always be your life. You can chose to pick  pieces of inspiration for your life’s recipe from movies, people or art but unless you add the ingredients and stir them into your boiling pot the flavor will always remain the same and you will remain dissatisfied with the taste.
